"I do not believe I have ever met someone so abject and debased, yet at the same time so foul.
I feel soiled from touching him, and I do not mean for the filth on his skin. Soiled in here."
She touched her breast. "The degradation of his soul almost makes me doubt he has one.
There is something worse to him than a Darkfriend."
Allegiance: Himself.
Title(s): Ordeith, Jeraal Mordeth.
Favorite Saying: I will see you suffer al'Thor.

A pale and skinny man with a massive nose and gangly arms. Formerly a peddler, he visited Emonds Field every spring. He enjoyed being the centre of attention and made a show of telling the latest news, always laughing and smiling.

Padan Fain became a darkfriend when he was approximately twenty, promised great rewards which his greed couldn't pass up, and was a darkfriend for more than 40 years. He was chosen by the Dark One to seek the Dragon Reborn in 996 NE. He was summoned to Shayol Ghul where he met Ba'alzamon who changed him to become a hunter. A year later he returned to Shayol Ghul and his mind was distilled to find out what he had discovered. He had become the Dark One's hound.

By 998 NE he knew it was one of three boys. He then performed rites to bind himself even closer to the Dark One. He brought the trollocs to Emonds Field on Winternight that year.

After winternight, he was brought with the trollocs, on the chase after Moiraine and company. He had to sleep in a cookpot. When the trollocs entered Shadar Logoth, he managed to escape them. But when he left the city, Mordeth tried to take over his body. However because Fain's soul had been touched directly by the Dark One, Mordeth could only merge with Padan Fain. This created a very evil and dangerous creature that was worse than a darkfriend.

After leaving Shadar Logoth, the compulsion to hunt Rand, Mat and Perrin was stronger than ever. Fain could now feel where the three were, especially Rand. He survived on anything he could grab. He chased them until too exausted to move, and would fall over and sleep. When he awakened he had to chase again.

He went half mad with this situation, and looked like a dirty grimy ragbag. He chased the group into the ways, where he met Machin Shin. Fain listened to and understood the voices. Machin Shin fled from Fain!

In Fal Dara, he managed to remove the ties to Ba'alzamon and stole the Horn of Valere and Mat's dagger. He led Mat, Rand, Perrin, Ingtar and a group of Shienarans to Falme where he lost the dagger again, but regained in later in Tar Valon. He feels whole and complete with the dagger.

Less than human, worse than vile. Probably as dangerous as any forsaken - he can make a Myrddraal sweat! People are corrupted by his presence. Too long with him (which isn't long) and you are as good as a darkfriend.

He can sense fear and tension, and can tell a darkfriend on sight. A blend of Fain and Mordeth, he called himself Ordeith (wormwood) for a time. He is able to talk most people into anything. He made certain that Pedron and Elaida were totally against Rand. He convinced Pedron Niall to send enough Whitecloaks into the Two Rivers so he could flay Rand's people. He is still drawn towards Rand but he is able to resist it. He cannot sense Rand when he is in the void.

With sly grins, black moods, hawty stares and jumping from accent to accent he sent Dain Bornhald to the bottle in the Two Rivers. He is considered a renegade by the Shadow and is wanted dead. Isam was sent to the Two Rivers to complete this task, but failed miserably, and continues the hunt.

He developed a type of "magic", that allows him to hurt people with just a touch. This can cause death or just short-term pain, depending on his mood.

Under the name of Jeraal Mordeth, Fain linked up with Toram Riatin in the foothills of the Dragonwall. When Rand visited, and a bubble of evil turned up in the form of vicious fog, he used it to slice Rand with the Shadar Logoth dagger, almost killing him. Normally when he uses this dagger on a person, it poisons them within seconds and their body turns black and bloated.

He is still at large, and still hunting Rand.
